IB MYP Certificate @ISD

The IB MYP Certificate is an internationally-recognized end-of-programme qualification that is equivalent to the UK (I)GCSE, as well as other 10th-grade national education leaving qualifications in other countries. It is an academically rigorous exam and portfolio-style culmination to the IB Middle Years Programme, which prepares students to make a stronger transition to the IB Diploma Programme.

Grade 9 and 10 ISD students have the opportunity to earn the
IB MYP Certificate at the end of Grade 10. To be eligible for the IB MYP Certificate, a student must:
  • Complete 5 on-screen subject examinations (Language and Literature, Language Acquisition, Mathematics Standard/Extended, Science, Humanities)
  • Complete 1 on-screen Interdisciplinary examination
  • Complete 1 eportfolio in Arts or Design)
  • Complete 1 Personal Project (*required for all G10 students)
  • Meet ISD's MYP Community Engagement Programme requirements

The highest possible score from the 8 required assessment components (Exams, e-portfolio, Personal Project) is 56 points.
  • Possible IB grade of 1-7 per assessment component
  • Sum of final IB grade (1-7) per assessment component

To be awarded the *IB MYP Certificate, a student must achieve:
  • A minimum of 3 or higher in each assessment component
  • A minimum of 28 points overall

*IB MYP Course Results
Students who do not complete the 8 required assessment components may earn individual MYP Course Results for any completed components.

IB MYP Certificate Recognition in Germany

IB MYP / KMK Agreement (Deutsch)
IB MYP / KMK Agreement (English)
The IB MYP Certificate may be recognized as equivalent to the German Mittlerer Schulabschluss (end of Grade 10 Leaving Certificate). Please refer to the official IBO/KMK agreement in German linked above. While an English translation is also provided, the German version is official.

Mittlerer Schulabschluss recognition is relevant for German citizens or B2/C1-level German speakers who plan to leave ISD after Grade 10 and (re)enter the German education system.

Mittlerer Schulabschluss recognition is also relevant for German citizens or B2/C1-level German speakers who plan to enter apprenticeship programs in Germany (Ausbildung/Duales Studium) and will not have an Abitur-equivalent IB Diploma after Grade 12 at ISD.

The MYP Certificate may be recognized as equivalent to the Mittlerer Schulabschluss when the conditions below are met (KMK/IBO Agreement):

Mittleren Schulabschluss:
MYP Certificate achieved with a total of 32 points or greater.

Mittleren Schulabschluss + Berechtigung zum Besuch der Einführungsphase der gymnasialen Oberstufe:
  • MYP Certificate achieved with a total of 40 points or greater.
  • A total of 15 points achieved in Mathematics, English and German.
  • At least one of English or German must be Language & Literature.
  • The second English or German course may be Language & Literature or Language Acquisition.
  • If German is a Language Acquisition course, it should be at least Phase 5/6.

For German citizens or B2/C1-level German speakers who plan to leave ISD after Grade 10 and re-enter the German school system, or to begin an 'Ausbildung' programme, recognition of the IB MYP Certificate as equivalent to the Mittlere Schulabschluss is carried out via the Bezirksregierung Köln (Antrag auf Bewertung).

The IB MYP Coordinator and ISD Career & Higher Education Counsellors will support the recognition application process for ISD students seeking to have their IB MYP Certificate recognized as equivalent to the Mittlere Schulabschluss.
