Grade 11 & 12 Academic Programme & Course Choices
(for Grade 10 students)
Students entering grade 11 at ISD have a choice of academic programmes for their last two years of high school. In addition to completing the CIS/NEASC-accredited ISD High School Diploma, students can choose to complete either IB Diploma Courses (Certificates) or the IB Diploma (DP). The choice of academic programme depends on the level of challenge the student is seeking as well as their plans for higher education. The graphic below summarizes the most important points about the three academic pathways that are available to ISD students and the higher education opportunities students can access with each qualification.

Which Gr. 11/12 courses do I need?
Choosing the most appropriate courses for grade 11 & 12 is connected with the major/course/degree a student intends to study after high school. With that in mind, the links below highlight 'Essential' and 'Recommended' courses that fit with certain majors/courses/degrees. Oxford University in the UK also publishes a similar list of essential and recommended subjects.
Each link refers to 'A-Level or equivalent', which is the national qualification in the UK. In the ISD context, DP courses are equivalent to A-Level subjects. Although the advice from these resources on 'essential' and 'recommended' subjects relates to university degrees in the UK, the recommendations can be generalized to studying these subjects at institutions in other countries as well. As always, please see your counsellor if and when you are not sure.
